A serial number is a unique number for every item that a
company makes.
If the item is of some importance, there will be a serial number on it !
(Hi-fi / Computer equipment / Electronic devices /
Software / Bicycles etc)
Its usually located on the back, underneath or
inside the battery compartment.
It is sometimes accompanied by a product
code.
There are many reasons for taking note of your serial numbers.
Everyday the Police Authorities locate stolen or
lost
property,
and have no way of knowing who's it is. Using this site they
will be able to locate the owners of the items and contact them.
Other
reasons for storing this information, is for the insurance
companies, who often like to know this information, but its
usually too late after the item has been lost or stolen.
